Riverside Art Space

A new open air public art space created to showcase more art, connecting people with nature working harmoniously with its Sensory Garden location.

The newly created Riverside Art Space imaginatively creates an all seasons new place where nature and planting meets art and culture.

The project has the support of Sidmouth Town Council, who granted permission for the art space, with the blessing of Sidmouth In Bloom (SIB) who created and maintain the garden.

SIB will be planting the new structures with succulents and other plants later in the year to further integrate the baskets and encourage biodiversity.

After a special preview welcome event Riverside Art Space opened with a new Your Town My Town photography exhibition on the 15th February, the first of three planned exhibitions in the new space over the next 12 months.

Each exhibition - free and accessible to all - beyond traditional museums and galleries, aims to bring new perspectives and give access to everyone to enjoy the artwork created through community participation working with a variety of artists.

The new space complements and builds on the success of our other public art spaces Sidmouth WallspaceTelephone box art spaces - the Museums of Antiquities and Contemporary Art in Sidmouth's Market Square and the Riverside Walkway Revitalised - art gallery and brass rubbing trail.

Working with artists and groups in the community of all ages, we are grateful for all your support and involvement in helping us to achieving our Vision and mission and aims, informed by the community.

Thanks to our funders and to those who got involved helping to make this a community portrait, a snapshot of what makes up Sidmouth, which in the words of JJ Waller is a “can-do town full of can-do people”.
