May Day Madness
Taken during the year that Covid interrupted Sidmouth Folk Festival, this image celebrates the spirit of folk lore within the Sidmouth community.
Members of Otter Morris, woke up at 4am to dance up the sun for Beltane (Gaelic May Day festival marking the start of summer), upholding long established traditions through the year in Sidmouth.
Capturing this shot for the artist, took more than a ‘normal’ landscape, with much anticipation of “will everything align?”; the sunrise, the dancers and getting the best composition. The image delivered and presents a view of the iconic red Jurassic coast cliffs in a way that many may not get to witness.
In a linked “A Folk Festival Portrait” exhibition in the Riverside Art Space, the Sensory Garden – July to September, Kyle’s work features alongside JJ Waller’s as part of the Your Town My Town project.
