CODEX
13th December, 2024 - 21st February, 2025

CODEX

The CODEX Project is a collaboration with Sidmouth College students and Sidmouth School of Art. Traditional and digital forms combine innovatively to express identity.  Exploring personal journeys and emotional wellbeing, the artwork shares young people's 'voice' in today's society.

CODEX Digital and Print

The project takes inspiration from ‘The Thamesmead Codex’ by Bob & Roberta Smith and explore a range of techniques and including digital print, typography, photography and experimental printing using gelli plates.  Sam and Emma are leading the project combining their creative practices to pilot this innovative approach with young people.

The project is timely, as young people are faced with change and challenges to their wellbeing and finding a meaning and value in today’s society.

Through a collection of outcomes this project creates a visual conversation between the Sidmouth Wallspace and the CODEX - Digital and Print Telephone Box Micro Museums in Sidmouth's Market Square - also currently exhibiting some of the artwork created through CODEX, giving a ‘voice’ to the young people of Sidmouth.

The project itself is a pilot which Sidmouth School of Art are hoping to extend to teachers and young people throughout Devon and is part of our Sidmouth Makes Art (SMArt) Project.
