COP 30

Sidmouth community concerns, care and commitment to local and global environmental challenges. A visual response to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in November 2025 in Brazil.

Local residents create their COP 30 posters

A symbolic creative gesture

This project inspired and coordinated by Brazilian Sidmouth Resident and artist Lúcia Cooper with the support of her family and Maureen and Mike Hawkridge, aligns with the gathering of world leaders for their annual meeting to tackle climate change.  This unique project unites artists from the UK and Brazil in responding to COP 30.

The work of 20 artists, 18 from Sidmouth and the UK including 2 Brazilians and and 2 Brazilian artists who live in São Paulo and Santos, are brought together to create a new collaborative artwork for Sidmouth.

This new work seeks to celebrate the natural beauty of our local environment and express the desire to maintain and protect it for our own benefit and that of future generations.

Coinciding with COP 30 which will take place in Belém, Para - the gateway to the Amazon Rainforest, the artwork will be exhibited on Sidmouth Wallspace in November, raising awareness of climate change and how we can protect our common home.

Sidmouth School of Art is bringing the voices of young and older people into the project through a series of ink poster art workshops.

COP 30 Ink Poster Workshops

These creative sessions invited the community to create a poster about the environment, experimenting with new skills, using inks and foam brushes to 'have their say' creating campaign posters expressing hopes and fears about climate change, adding their voices to pressure to accelerate actions and implement commitments made at previous COPs.

Workshops also took place at Sidmouth u3a Exploring Art Group in the summer of 25, enabling many of the artists whose work features in the Sidmouth Wallspace piece to develop their ideas together.

Below the u3a art group members work on their images plus 3 of our UK based Brazilian artists...

Uniting voices from Sidmouth and Brazil

Introducing two of our participating Brazilian artists Marcia Carmona and Sara Bittante, whose artworks feature in our COP 30 artwork, and whose participation from their homes in São Paulo and Santos, helps to amplify the collaborative message of the work internationally and importantly in Brazil, where COP 30 will be held from 10th to 21st November 2025.

COP 30 Climate Art and the 5p's People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership

Using Inks and the 5Ps of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals which help shape what happens at COP, children, young people and adults in Sidmouth are creating their own ink posters.  Campaign posters which share their hopes, fears and calls to action for a sustainable future.

Together we are taking part in a 'Global Mobilisation' through our Sidmouth response to COP 30 project.  The body of work from our poster workshops will feature in our new year exhibition "Marine and Green - Together Be Seen", The Ham, Sidmouth, 2026 - more details coming soon.

"The ‘Sidmouth Artists Thoughts for COP30 Brazil Project’ embodies the power of creativity and collective action in addressing the urgent call for climate justice. Art transcends borders, sparking conversation and inspiring change where words alone may fall short. As a faith community, we believe in the moral responsibility to care for our planet and stand in solidarity with those most affected by environmental degradation. This project not only amplifies local voices but also connects Sidmouth to the global stage, reminding us that every brushstroke, every idea, and every act of solidarity brings us closer to a more just and sustainable future. We are proud to support this initiative and stand with artists and all who strive to make COP30 a turning point for our planet."
