Portraiture with Kat Heueston
Kat's workshop at Buzz Coffee in Sidmouth gave volunteers in our community a wonderful opportunity to have a go at self-portrait exercises, with the aims of fostering creativity and confidence. As part of the Celebrating Volunteers project.
We had a brilliant turn out with 12 attending our self-portrait workshops with Kat on the 8th November at Buzz Coffee, in Sidmouth.
Kat's informal style and confidence-building drawing exercises made for a relaxed evening with participants having a go at drawing self portraits. Everyone enjoyed the fun exercises including drawing your portrait based on the sensory experience of touching your face whilst sketching, simple line drawing exercises followed up with the charcoal rub out method to create a finished piece of work. With a mix of ages and experience from none to plenty, everyone learnt new techniques and the charcoal self portraits look amazing.
This is part of our Sidmouth Makes Art(SMArt) two year partnership project; Sidmouth Coastal Community Hub and Sidmouth School of Art.
The portraits will be part of our celebrating volunteers in our community focus and the work will go on to make up a final piece to be displayed on Sidmouth Wallspace, our public gallery space overlooking Ham East car park in Sidmouth.
The artwork created by our community artist participants from our workshops with Natasha Hayball, Wilfrid Wood and Kat Heueston will feature in our
Celebrating Volunteers Exhibition Saturday 9th December to Tuesday 12th December, 11am to 4pm at The Old Meeting Unitarian Chapel, Sidmouth, EX10 8ER.
