Triton/Reflections on the Sea
Two new exhibitions by Zac Greening and Rose Adams, inspired by powerful, mythical sea stories and our existence on this watery planet
Museum of Contemporary Art: Reflections on the Sea
Artist: Zac Greening
Zac’s inspiration comes principally from nature, 'the ultimate sculptress'. Sculptural forms created by the sun, moon, waves and trees are particularly inspiring as symbols of sustainability and often present in his work.
This installation connects us to the kinetic and meditative experience found in the rolling of sea waves, expressed through recycled materials. A comment about environmental degradation, this abstract work reminds the viewer of humankind’s inextricable links with the natural world.
This exhibition is part of a new Winter Lights Festival in February 2024. This free community event will feature installations whose narrative focuses on the festival theme Sidmouth On Sea – Save Our Seas. The Festival will be in the Sensory Garden and the Ham on Feb 9, 10, 15, 16 and 17.
Museum of Antiquities: Triton
Artist: Rose Adams
Triton is a Greek god of the sea, the son of Poseidon and Amphitrite. Triton lived with his parents in a golden palace at the bottom of the sea and is often depicted with a conch shell and wreaking havoc upon the sea.
This is an interactive exhibit! You're invited to turn the handle to hear the music box playing 'Davy Jones's Locker'. This is a powerful metaphor for the oceanic abyss, the final resting place of drowned sailors and travellers.
