This project started life as a locally produced, multi-award winning documentary film (of the same name), in 2023. This year, the filmmakers TPLfilms working with the Folk Festival are delighted to release the film on physical formats such as DVD as well as online (streaming) to ensure its legacy.
“A selection of the original formats and devices that captured the archive footage seen in the film. ITV Leeds (Telecine and Transfers), The BBC, The Box in Plymouth all contributed in helping achieve our goal”.
In the Micro Museum of Antiquities discover through "Traditions of Folk" how the festival evolved over time but also what the future might hold...
The artefacts on display remember previous festivals across different years.
Poetry by Ilse Pedler (Poet in Residence). Ilse was a poet, veterinary surgeon and morris dancer. She won the Mslexia Poetry Pamphlet competition in 2015 and her first collection Auscultation was published in 2021 by Seren.
An experienced workshop facilitator and is the poet in residence at Sidmouth Folk festival. She lives in Cumbria and runs Dove Cottage poets in Grasmere and with a group of fellow poets and novelists has recently launched Bending the Arc, a magazine of Thrutopian writing”. www.ilsepedler.com
- ‘Bones’ as played by Len Davies. “Presented here by his daughter Louisa Davies - Foley these are one of the original ‘bones’ played by Len Davies for many years on Sidmouth's sea-front”.
- Image of Mike Boston (Morris Dancer and ‘Fool’). “Mike was a well known and loved Morris Dancer and ‘Fool’ and is fondly remembered by audiences at Sidmouth, his loving family and his Morris Team - Great Western Morris”.
- Replica Festival Flag. “this is a replica of the original procession flag featured in the film. The original is safely housed in the SVA Museum. It was rescued from possible destruction by an observant Council Worker who contacted TPLfilms in 2017!”
- Legacy Tankard and Modern Day Recyclable Beer Mug, Tea towels Pins and Badges and Historic brochures “Items popular in the 60’s and 70’s during Folk Week”.
